“Service is the rent we pay for living on this earth. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.”
Those words were spoken by Marian Wright Edelman, founder of the Children’s Defense Fund.
Being born in the baby boom generation, I recently turned 50. I decided to use this milestone as a time reflect on plans for the second half of my life. Many people are going through similar transitions, whether it's turning 50, or 60, or retiring, so I thought I'd share some of my thoughts and lessons learned. In 2009 I joined the ranks of the unemployed for 11 months. I ended up with a good job in Austin Texas, but I’ll always feel a sense of solidarity with those still unemployed.
